Welcome to the official blog of The Wooden Fork and Spoon! We call it “Eat with The Wooden Fork and Spoon”. On this blog, we hope to post things related to food: behind the scenes, videos, cooking, recipes, dining out, equipment and tools, experiences, adventures, reviews, books, people, restaurants, ingredients, experiments, events, culinary finds, etc.,. (hopefully in an informative and entertaining way)

We originally started with this blog several years ago but kind of put it on the back burner because of numerous reasons. We resurrected the name when we created our artisan granola. We called our new company “The Wooden Fork and Spoon”. Our goal with this company is to create food products that are healthy. Food products made with clean ingredients, no preservatives, and nothing that can’t be easily pronounced or recognized. Products that we would proud to eat ourselves. Our first product is our Artisan Granola.

Many times when we are working our vendor booth we get asked “what is the wooden fork and spoon?”. As Filipinos, both my wife and I had these large decorative utensils in our respective households when we were much younger, specifically in the kitchen. I saw these utensils in many of the homes of our friends and relatives as well. I just assumed it was just a thing Filipinos did. (Do you have these hanging in your home?) Anyway, the kitchen was the place where we shared many good times and delicious food with friends and family. That’s why we chose the wooden fork and spoon as our symbol for our company.

Another question we get asked is “why/how did you get started doing granola?”. Granola is definitely not a Filipino dish (at least to my knowledge). I am a fan of granola. I really enjoy eating it. I first encountered granola in the dining hall at college. I’ve been eating it ever since. I’m always on the look out for different brands/varieties to try out in the nearby market. Some were good. Some were not. Many contained ingredients I didn’t want. Some were too hard, too soft, too sweet, or too sticky. So I thought I should try making my own. We experimented with different recipes until we got it just right. We kept making it and eating it then decided to share it with family and friends. We gave it as Christmas gifts one year. To our delight, we were asked if they could have more. We wondered if others would like it too, so we decided to sell it at the local farmers’ market under the cottage food law. People did buy it. We even sold out sometimes. We only had two varieties when we started ; Vanilla Almond Coconut (still our top seller) and Very Coconut (now known as Coconut Squared). We were often asked if the granola was available online and at the time we couldn’t sell online under the cottage food law. We have been commercial a little over a year now. We rent a commercial kitchen to cook our deliciously addicting granola and sell online as well as local markets.

We are still at it. Still growing and learning everyday. If you would like to purchase our granola, visit our online store or follow us on social media to find out where we’ll be selling at next.
