How to Make Dalgona (Korean Whipped Coffee)

Whipped Coffee seems to be pretty popular right now. Browsing YouTube the other day we saw a BuzzFeed video by Inga Lam. In this video she demonstrates how to make Korean Whipped Coffee or Dalgona. This was the first we had heard of this and were fascinated by it. It is such a simple treat to make. After watching her video we decided to try it for ourselves.

The video shows how easy it is to make Korean whipped coffee.

Although whipped coffee can be made using a wire whisk by hand, it can take quite some time, so we recommend using an electric hand mixer instead.

On the day we made this, we used Cafe Bustelo instant coffee. This worked for the recipe but it was very strong for our taste. I think we’ll use another brand next time we make this. I would also reduce the amount of sugar but this may affect the fluffiness of the whipped coffee.

See the recipe below.

Recipe (yields enough for 4 people):
4 Tbsp Instant coffee
4 Tbsp sugar
4 Tbls water

Directions:
Using Whisk or electric hand mixer (preferred) combine ingredients until thickened. About 4 mins with mixer. Much longer (20+ mins) with wire whisk.

Scoop into glass of favorite milk (dairy, Almond, Coconut, etc.)
Stir to Combine.

This drink was enjoyable and definitely something to try especially if you like coffee (maybe even if you don’t). After drinking this, we wondered if this would work with Thai tea mix, Matcha Green Tea, or Hot Chocolate. We’ll experiment and let you know. Stay tuned. Thanks for reading.
